Some advice about playing the living world with a friend. Make sure you're on the same exact step by reading the story text before you enter any instance. So, the normal guild hall instance only holds 5 players. Once one more person enters, it asks everyone to volunteer for an instance that can hold 10 people. Once an 11th person joins, it asks you to volunteer again for an instance that can hold 15 people. And so on.
The best solution right now is to Guest onto a different (go to world select on the character select screen), low populated server, and have your friend do the same. brickwalker0 11 years ago #4. Join a party with your friends (/invite name or /join name - you can also do it through the Contacts list and right-clicking). You can immediately enter the capital city. Every capital city for every race has an Asura Gate (portals, basically) to Lion's Arch. Lion's Arch is a big hub sort of in the middle-ish of the GW 2 world.
As an additional note, if you want to zone into an existing run (if you are a replacement or dced for some reason), press G.
